To reduce the environmental impact of construction, many builders are looking to use more renewable materials in their plans. Renewable materials are resources that can naturally replenish themselves over time. The quicker a resource can regenerate, the more effective a renewable material it is. While reclaimed and recycled materials are also important to use, builders should do as much as they can to work with renewable resources. According to the Consortium for Research on Renewable Industrial Materials, building 1.7 million homes with the typical resources of wood, steel and concrete consumes the same amount of energy as heating and cooling 10 million houses every year

Bamboo is one of the most sustainable materials available. This material is widely used in Asian, Pacific Islander and Central and Southern American cultures, and is gradually becoming more popular in North America. The beautiful material's tensile strength is greater than steel and has only a minimal risk of warping. It can be used for anything from flooring, support columns, interior and exterior walls, structural frames, roofing and furnishings.

This member of the grass family is one of the fastest-growing plants in the world, reaching a growth rate of 4 feet in a 24-hour period, according to The Sierra Club. Because it is so easy to grow and harvest, it is one of the most efficient renewable materials available. Unlike hardwood that can only be harvested every 25 to 50 years, bamboo can be harvested every 3 to 6 years.

Anova aims to be environmentally responsible by using both recycled and renewable materials. Anova's bamboo collection uses carefully selected mature bamboo for the best quality and durability around.
